When God Is Your Sustainer – You know you are safe
There are moments in life when I know — with every fibre of my being — that I am still standing because God is my source and sustainer. And yet, there are other moments, quiet and dark, when I doubt. I wonder if He sees me, if He hears me, if He’s still walking with me. But in those very places of doubt, I have come to witness the most powerful truth: God truly sustains me.
He doesn’t just create and abandon. He stays. He holds. He carries.
God is not a distant figure watching from above. He is my present help — not only in times of crisis but even in the slow, exhausting days when I don’t feel strong, don’t feel enough, or don’t feel anything at all.
Sometimes, I feel inadequate. Like I’m not measuring up. Like the pressure is greater than the grace I carry. But then I remember — He is my Creator. He knows me. He formed me. He made me the way I am, and nothing about me is a mistake. He doesn’t just tolerate my weakness; He makes room for it — so that His strength can be seen through me.
What Does It Mean That God Is Our Sustainer?
Throughout Scripture, God is described as the One who holds all things together. Hebrews 1:3 says that “He sustains all things by His powerful word.” That word sustain is rich — it means to give strength, uphold, protect, comfort, and carry. It’s not passive. It’s intentional and ongoing.
God doesn’t just give us a boost; He is our constant support system. And He never runs out of energy like we do.
We are finite. We get tired, overwhelmed, discouraged, and sometimes even crushed. But God? He is infinite.
“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God” — Psalm 90:2. His strength is eternal, His wisdom unfailing, and His love unrelenting.
Echoes of This Truth
The Psalms are full of raw, honest prayers from people who depended on God’s sustaining power. David, for example, was often in distress, running from enemies, or fighting weariness. Yet, even in the wilderness, he could say:
“I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.” — Psalm 63:8
Other Psalms speak of God’s sustaining power:
- “You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me” — Psalm 18:35
- “Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever” — Psalm 41:12
- “My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him” — Psalm 89:21
These aren’t just poetic lines — they are lifelines. They remind us that we don’t have to have it all together. God’s hand is enough to hold us together.
To the One Feeling Low Today
You could be at your lowest right now — overwhelmed, exhausted, maybe even ready to give up. Trust me when I say this: You will not go lower. God is beneath you, holding you up. He is sustaining you even when you don’t feel it. He’s carrying those pieces you think can’t be carried anymore.
So I pray for you today…
May God’s angels come and serve you. May His presence be so real to you that it silences every lie of the enemy. May you feel His arms around you — holding you, lifting you, keeping you.
Because my dear friend, you are not alone.
You never were.
And you never will be.
He is your Sustainer.
Even here.
Even now.
Especially now.
