Hey friend,
Let’s pull up a seat and talk — heart to heart.
You know how we all crave the light? That clarity. That right path. That sunshine moment where everything makes sense and feels good. We chase it, don’t we? Because who wouldn’t want to live in the light?
But here’s a little something I’ve been thinking about lately: we’ve painted darkness as the enemy. We’ve made it the villain. And yet… isn’t it funny how some of the most beautiful things (actually all) begin in the dark?
Think about a seed. It’s tucked deep down into the soil — where it’s dark, quiet, maybe even lonely. But that’s exactly where it starts to grow. It’s there that it draws in nutrients, breaks open, sends out roots. It prepares in the dark so that one day, it can rise into the light. And when it finally breaks the surface? Oh, how beautiful it looks basking in the sun. But the magic didn’t start in the light. It started underground. Same goes for us.
I’ve noticed that when the lights literally go off in our homes … you know the blackouts especially at night, everyone groans. The house goes quiet for a second, then comes that collective sigh of disappointment. But have you also noticed how loud the cheers are when the lights come back on? It’s like joy bursts through the room. However, during the day, that switch between light and dark barely moves us.
Isn’t that life? We only truly appreciate light when we’ve tasted the dark.
I say this with love: darkness is not your enemy. That hard season? That heartbreak? That confusing, painful place you may be walking through right now? It could very well be your growing place.
Because growth doesn’t shout. It doesn’t show up in glitter and sunshine. Growth happens quietly. In the hidden places. In the wrestle. In the stretch. In the breaking. So don’t rush out of the dark. Sit in it. Learn from it. Let your roots go deep. So if you're in a dark place, don’t panic. You're not buried — you're planted.
Grow because your Glow is coming.
Because when the light returns … and it will return you won’t just step into it as you were. You’ll step into it stronger. Rooted. Glowing. People will say, “You’re different. You’re radiant.” And they may never know what it took in the dark for you to shine like that.
So here’s my little reminder today:
You don’t have to fear the darkness.
You’re not lost — you’re planted.
Grow well. Glow later.
With all my love,
Your old friend.
